Common Theme Campaign - Make Your World a Smoke-Free Zone
August – September 2009

Smoke Free Zone” was designed to raise awareness of the harmful effects of second-hand smoke and reduce exposure, by creating more smoke free environments. The campaign hopes to increase the percentage of VT smokers with children who do not allow smoking in their home and car. Most parents care intensely about the health and well-being of their children, and feel fully responsible for it.  Many parents who smoke believe they already take the steps needed to protect their children from secondhand smoke, like smoking in a separate room of the house or with the car window open.

What you need to know:

"There is no risk-free level of exposure to secondhand smoke." ~ From the 2008 U.S. Surgeon General's Report

The only way to keep your children and pets from being exposed to the dangers of
secondhand smoke is to maintain a smoke-free zone around them - this means a total
ban in the home, garage, and car even when children are not present.
